When that happens you want your path through the tile to be as clean and professional looking as possible. Simply cutting a hole with a sheetrock saw won’t do. The customer could have done that and you are paid to be better. I try not to run things through ceiling tiles unless it is really necessary, but sometimes it is. There are also times where I am cleaning up behind someone else who just made a rough cut in the tile and dropped their line down with no regard to how it looks when the customer looks at it, and they will. I decided to fix that problem as easily and cleanly as I could, and this is my solution. Easy and fast! I did not want to spend a lot of time or money solving the problem so it needed to be cost effective and quick to install. With this unit, you press the back side of it into the face of the ceiling tile to leave an impression, then cut around the outside of that impression, slide the unit into place, then slide the lock on and you are done. If it takes you more than two minutes to install this guy, you are doing something wrong. These come in three sizes and can be used at two different depths. Each unit can be installed flush with the edge of the tile, or a little deeper to make it flush with the edge of the metal support. The first method is good for running just a couple of cables through as small a hole as possible, and the second method, which is prefered, is a little cleaner and holds a larger amount of cables. These grommets can hold roughly a minimum of: Small – 24 CAT6 cables in a 22mm x 32mm interior space Meduim – 64 CAT6 cables in a 42mm x 45mm interior space Large – 144 CAT6 cables in a 60mm x 60mm interior space Of course how many cables depends on the diameter of the cable. For example shielded direct burial cable will be much larger than CAT3 CM and so fewer of the former will fit than the latter. They stay put in the tile using a sliding lock that has a spike that holds into the tile itself, no need for tape, glue, or zip ties. Install it in seconds and it will be there decades later. I talk a lot about network cables here, because that is what I do, but these will also work for conduit, pipes, or anything else you need to run through a ceiling tile. They will work between two tiles, or between a tile and the wall. Since they are open-ended they are extremely versitile and should work in a lot of networking, plumbing, and electrical situations.
