Who are We?

Message from Shannon Sevier, National PTA VP of Advocacy:

State Advocates,
You have my gratitude and admiration for the tenacity and passion displayed since April, and especially this week, to support family engagement provisions in the reauthorization of ESEA/NCLB. Together, with National PTA staff, we facilitated the successful vote and passage of the Bennet-Reed amendment that establishes a grant program allowing states to operate statewide family engagement centers to assist school districts and schools in implementing evidence-based family engagement strategies that support student achievement.
Today we celebrate this legislative win, but I would like to celebrate another, more profound event. The genesis of the Contemporary PTA Advocacy Collective! We are 4 million strong and yesterday’s vote does not mark the culmination of a singular effort, but the continuation of our legacy as child advocates, thought leaders, and change agents.
Please take the time to view and share National PTA President Laura Bay’s video below. Please pass the message forward to membership, and build excitement for the coming term!

Shannon Sevier
VP of Advocacy, National PTA
